Hunter Sykes (Geog, Hist) produced and directed an award-winning conservation documentary, The Hunter Legacy. The film examines 80 years of conservation and change in Kenya through the eyes of the descendants of big game hunters. The production was filmed in part by fellow Buffs alum Darren Campbell (贰苍惫颁辞苍鈥94).

Known as the 鈥淎coustic Ninja,鈥 Trace Bundy (CivEngr; MS鈥03) has become recognized for his unique guitar playing style. After several clips of him made the rounds on YouTube, Trace was the subject of a short documentary in 2017, which premiered at Sundance. He and his wife, Rebecca, live in Boulder.听

In 2004, Melissa Stockwell (Comm) became the first woman to lose a limb in the Iraq War when she lost her leg to an IED during a routine patrol in Iraq. After a long and challenging recovery, Melissa went on to win three paratriathlon world championships and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Melissa鈥檚 memoir, The Power of Choice: My Journey from Wounded Warrior to World Champion, was published in 2020.

After Ryan McMunn (Mktg) and his wife Allie recovered from COVID-19, they knew they had to act. The Tricam Industries CEO utilized his business experience to source hundreds of masks from a Chinese factory that produces ladders for his company. They donated the masks to UC Health Boulder and the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. Ryan lives in Denver and also is CEO and founder of BRIC language systems and founder of Leroy Street Capital.听

This April, Gunnar Hand (EnvDes) started as urban planning director for the unified government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. Gunnar was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and writes 鈥淭his new position is not just a great honor, but a homecoming of sorts.鈥 He previously worked as project manager for the new single terminal at the Kansas City Airport.

To say that Kyla Duffy (Mktg, Span) has been keeping busy since graduation would be an understatement. After a two-year stint as the national sales manager at Eldorado Climbing Walls in Boulder, Kyla started a publishing company, earned a master鈥檚 degree and began teaching sales management at CU. In 2012, Duffy joined a circus in Japan and stayed with it for seven years, meeting her husband. Most recently, she moved to Mexico, launched her own business and wrote Launch a Powerful Job Search in 7 Days, released in 2020.

While his grandmother battled COVID-19, Corey Cappelloni (Law) dropped everything and ran 鈥 literally 鈥 to be there for her as best he could. An experienced ultra-marathoner, Corey spent seven days running the 220 miles from Washington, D.C., to his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, which was the equivalent of an ultra-marathon each day. In the process he raised over $25,000 for his nana鈥檚 nursing home. He spoke to her through a megaphone from outside her fifth-floor window when finished his quest. 鈥淚 think this will be the highlight of my running career,鈥 he told Runners World this summer.听

Travis Macy (Hum) grew up watching his dad compete in Ironman races and ultra-marathons, eventually following in his father鈥檚 adventurous footsteps. To date, he has completed over 120 ultra-endurance events in 17 countries. In 2019, Travis and his father teamed up with several others to compete in World鈥檚 Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji, hosted by Bear Grylls on Amazon Prime.

Erich Schubert (Jour; MA鈥08) has been promoted to senior director of communications and content for the Denver Broncos. In his thirteenth season with the Broncos, Schubert鈥檚 role now involves overseeing both the day-to-day functions of the public relations department as well as managing the club鈥檚 digital and social teams. While working on his master鈥檚 at CU, Eric worked as a graduate assistant under associate athletic director and sports information director David Plati (闯辞耻谤鈥82).

After teaching in Adams 12 and Denver Public Schools classrooms he is now an assistant principal and CareerConnect pathway director at Northfield High School. He lives in Denver with his wife, Amanda, who he met while serving as the Buffs volleyball PA announcer, and his son, Colt.
