Erie, Colo., resident Nancy Blackwell-Grieder (Psych) competed in the inaugural World Figures Championship in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 28-29, finishing in eighth place among a strong field of former national champions and Olympians. As one of the inaugural competitors, she was inducted into the World Figures Hall of Fame and ranked eighth in the world. Figures skating, once a compulsory part of national, international and Olympic skating, involves carving specific patterns into the ice. Figures are seeing a resurgent interest in figure skaters worldwide. Nancy teaches figure skating at two ice rinks.

In 2005 Victor Pearn (MEngl) established the book publishing company Pearn and Associates, Inc. It has two publishing imprints: Burning Daylight, for prose, and Indian Paintbrush Poets, for poetry. The prose titles are also available as Kindle editions. Last year, Victor published two books: Ever After, a novel by Anita Sullivan, who previously won the Western States Nonfiction Award in 1986, and The Aloe of Evening, a book of poetry by John Knoepfle, professor emeritus of literature at the University of Illinois-Springfield. Victor plans to publish three or four new titles in 2016.

After receiving a fellowship at Hawthornden Castle in Scotland, novelist Susan Stinson (Engl) spent the month of January with five other writers in a 17th-century house attached to a 15th-century castle. She spent the time working on an historical novel.

Several years ago, sisters Elizabeth (MComm) and Patricia Donohoe (MEngl鈥82) found 150 letters from their great-great-grandparents in an old cracker tin in their grandfather鈥檚 house and another 150 on eBay. Afterward, Patricia wrote The Printer鈥檚 Kiss: The Life and Letters of a Civil War Newspaperman and His Family. The book tells the story of their ancestors鈥 lives in Ohio during the Civil War. The letters, which were donated to the West Virginia and Regional History Collection at West Virginia University, comprise the Wylie-Tomlinson Letter Collection.

Russell Lee Wehner III鈥檚 (Econ) family can now point to four generations of CU graduates: His son,聽Zachary Wehner聽(MMechEngr鈥14), graduated in December. They were preceded by Zachary鈥檚 grandmother,聽Margaret Sylvester Wehner聽(Edu鈥53), and Zachary鈥檚 great-grandmother,聽Anna Mary DesBrisay聽(Btny, Edu1914). Several other family members also attended CU. Says Margaret, 鈥淭hrough the years, the University of Colorado has been our stronghold and has served our family very well.鈥

LeRoy Jones聽(Chem鈥83) has been ranked among the world鈥檚 best urologists for surgical treatment of male incontinence and erectile dysfunction treatment. Last fall he launched the website edtreatmentsanantonio.com, which provides educational information on erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, male incontinence, premature ejaculation, male infertility and prostate problems. Jones sees patients at the Urology San Antonio Center for Men鈥檚 Health & Wellness.

Since 2007聽Alan F. Willenbrock聽(ChemEngr, Mktg鈥83) has been working in the wealth management department at Morgan Stanley in Tucson, Ariz., where he lives with his wife Peggy. In January Alan was named senior portfolio manager in the company鈥檚 portfolio management program where he will better help investors monitor and manage their money. He also was inducted into the firm鈥檚 Pacesetter Club, which recognizes those financial advisers who excel within their first five years in the job.

In Whitefish, Mont.,聽Kylanne Sandelin聽(Art鈥83) and her husband own and operate Great Northern Powder Guides, the state鈥檚 only snowcat skiing operation. Their experienced guides take groups of up to 14 for backcountry powder skiing and snowboarding. The couple has been married for 27 years and has two sons.

痴别迟别谤补苍听Richard Tremaine聽(Psych鈥83) is an associate director of Veteran Affairs Health Care System in New England. His son, Harrison Tremaine, is a freshman at CU-Boulder. Richard was featured in the September 2004 issue of the聽Coloradan聽about the outstanding care the Department of Veterans Affairs provided three Iraq Freedom veterans who had lost their limbs in combat.聽

The internationally developed research station orbits the earth about once every 90 minutes. Steve, with five others, will live on the station for six months starting in March 2014. Steve will serve as a flight engineer on Expedition 39 and as a station commander on Expedition 40. He lives in Friendswood, Texas.

Apricot Harvest聽(Indian Paintbrush Poets) is a book of poems written by聽Victor Pearn聽(MEngl鈥83). As a student his poem, 鈥淥ne Year of Grace,鈥 won the 1983 university-wide poetry contest and was the prologue in the 1984聽颁辞濒辞谤补诲补苍听yearbook. Victor taught English and writing at Jining University in Qufu, China, in 2009-10. He lives with his wife in Fort Collins, Colo., where he writes and publishes books and poems.
